Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day was celebrated in BSU

          

     On May 15, Educational and cultural center of Turkish researches of Baku Slavic University (BSU) hosted event dedicated to May 19, Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

     At the beginning of the event, memory of Mustafa Kamal Atatürk was commemorated with a minute of silence, National Anthems of Azerbaijan and Turkey were played.

     In her speech, teacher of Baku Yunus Emre Institute Fatma Bushra greeted the participants on behalf of Ibrahim Yildirim, the head of the office, and gave information about Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day. F.Bushra noted that a large part of Turkey was occupied after the defeat of Ottoman Empire in World War I. Rejecting this occupation, the Ottoman army officer Mustafa Kamal launched a national liberation movement on May 19, 1919. After a struggle that lasted for three years country was rescued from foreign forces. May 19, the date of Mustafa Kemal Pasha's arrival in Samsun is celebrated as Youth and Sports Day with his desire. This holiday had been added “Commemoration Day of Atatürk” since 1991.

     Fatma Bushra notified that this date is officially celebrated every year as Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, as well as founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kamal Atatürk’s birthday.

     Teacher of the chair of Azerbaijani history and social sciences Natig Abdullayev shared his memories about organized events dealt with Atatürk during his study in Turkey. Noting May 19 as one of the glorious pages of Turkey, N.Abdullayev called Turkish youth not to forget their history.

     Then BSU students and pupil of School Lyceum Complex in University Firuza Gasimzade, pupil of Baku Turkish Anadolu Lyceum Ferhad Teymurov recited poems “19 May” (“May 19”), “Bayraq” (“Flag”), “Samsuna doğru” (“Towards Samsun”), sang “İzmir marşı”( "Izmir march") and Atatürk’s favorite songs in chorus.

     BSU students read Atatürk's address to the youth and the answer of Youth to Atatürk, spoke about memories related to Atatürk.

     Vice rector for Educational Affairs Khanim Sultanova spoke about national heritage and equality between two brother countries saying that May 19 holiday is a joint holiday for Azerbaijan and Turkey which are considered “One nation, two states”.  Kh.Sultanova stated that “The place where Turk sets foot is homeland” and Turkish people possess sacred traditions and customs.

     Education coordinator of BakuYunus Emre Institute Ali Ihsan Chevik expressed his gratitude to Educational and cultural center of Turkish researches for high level organization. A.I.Chevik gave detailed information about establishment of Yunus Emre Institute, its activity, courses and exams organized there. Speaking about the project “Voice of Karabakh” jointly organized by Baku Yunus Emre Institute and Public Union on Evolution International Integration, A.I.Chevik notified that this project is held among talented young people with beautiful voice who live the life of refugee in Karabakh region. A.I.Chevik informed that the final stage of the competition will take place in the next few days in Baku.

     At the end, slide reflecting activity of Yunus Emre Institute was demonstrated.
