Prominent Eastern word master Hafiz Shirazi’s ghazals were published in Azerbaijani by the decision of the Scientific Council of Baku Slavic University

Master’s ghazals were presented wholly to the Azerbaijani reader for the first time.

Hafiz Shirazi’s works spread over the world in the middle age, copies of manuscripts are protected in the prestigious libraries of the world as precious examples of art. At all times this great master was shown love and respect in Azerbaijan too, his heritage was studied, imitative poems were written to his poems. It should be noted that the first Azerbaijani poet who collected works of poet and designed as selected poems of a poet in the middle age was Shah Gasim Anvar ( died in 1494)

In the XX century our great word masters like Mirza Alakbar Sabir, Mahammad Hadi translated some poetic patterns from his creativity into our language. Although Hafiz Shirazi is loved in Azerbaijan, his works aren’t still wholly translated into our language.

The main reason is the difficulty for translators to keep poetic spirit, art style of Hafiz’s poem in translation. Famous orientalist, scientist Abulfazl Huseyni was the first who dealt with translation of poet’s works.

It should be mentioned that, first of all, Hafiz is a poet of ghazal. These ghazals made him known in the world, he got "lisan ül-qeyb” pseudonym. Although it is impossible to specify their numbers, they are 496 in the critical text "Divane-Xacə Hafiz Şirazi” (Tehran 1928) arranged by Seyid Abdurrahman Khalkhali, 581 in Huseyn Pajman’s book "Divane-Xacə Şəmsəddin Məhəmməd Hafez Şirazi” (Tehran 1939). Some of them reach this number to thousand.

The book was prepared for publication by senior scholar of Institute of Manuscripts named after Mahammad Fuzuli of ANAS, PhD Ibrahim Guliyev.

The advantage of publication is that vocabulary of Persian-Arabic words is given at the end of each ghazal, extensive commentary was written. Rector of Baku Slavic University, professor Nurlana Aliyeva gave the book reference. Scientific editor of the book is doctor of philology, professor Rafig Novruzov.

The book was published as a contribution to the year of Islamic Solidarity Games declared by order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated January 10, 2017.
