The Academic Council of Baku Slavic University at its meeting held on October 25, 2002 by the unanimous decision awarded the President of the Republic of Bulgaria (1990-1997) Doctor Zhelyu Zhelev the title of BSU Honorary Doctor for his particular service in developing and strengthening friendship and cooperation between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan and extending neighburly relations between the nations.
