The Academic Council of Baku Slavic University at its meeting held on May 25, 2001 by the unanimous decision awarded the Patriarch of Moscow and Entire Russia Alexei II the title of BSU Honorary Doctor for religious and cultural links between Azerbaijan and Russia, strengthening peace and friendship between the nations, for his service in tightening cooperation between the religious confessions and for prominent achievements in the sphere of education.
